Etching

During 2012, I have been studying printmaking at our local Polytech art school. At the beginning of the academic year in February, I enrolled for the Diploma of Art, Craft and Design.  The academic year is now over and last week, I received my Diploma.  During the course I was able to focus on acquiring knowledge and skills associated with etching.

Last year when I undertook the Certificate course, we explored lino cuts, woodcuts, screen printing  and lithography as well as etching. I have always wanted to learn etching so, at 70 I thought the time had arrived.  It has been a wonderful, stimulating course. The good news is that I might be able to apply to undertake an Advanced Diploma in 2013. We'll see what the new year brings.  Here are a few of my recent etchings.

Flood waters in the Gorge at Launceston

A resting peacock in the gorge gardens.
By chance we met Derry Nielsen along with Daniels and Jenifer Forrest who had also come to the gorge to view the dramatic sight of the gorge in flood.

Happy 94th birthday, Estelle!

The happy birthday girl, Estelle, with her two daughters, Barbara and Dianne.

Today we travelled to Latrobe, where we joined family and friends of Estelle Fisher to help her celebrate her 94th birthday. Estelle is godmother to Noel. She has been very close to our family through the years and despite her advanced age, she still takes a keen interest in our children and their families. We spent a very happy few hours over lunch and afternoon tea helping her celebrate another significant day.
