Interesting places in Tasmania ...

When one travels on the main highway between Launceston and Hobart, one crosses a bridge over the Jordan river. The highway passes by the town of Jericho and later winds its way through the town of Bagdad.

A sail on the Lady Nelson

Today we travelled to Hobart as we had organised to take a 2 hour trip on the Derwent River on the Lady Nelson. It was a beautiful day to spend time on the Derwent. The vessel is a full sized replica of the original Lady Nelson.
The original ship was built on the River Thames at Deptford and was launched on 3rd November 1798 for Colonial service. The Lady Nelson featured in some of the early European exploration and settlement of the north and the south of Tasmania.
In 1807 she sailed with 34 men, women and children from Norfolk Island to Hobart Town.
In 1808 there was a second voyage from Norfolk Island to Hobart Town with 50 men, women and children.

Happy birthday, Noel!

Toby, Caitlin, Raf, Noel and Jessica

November 20th is Noel's happy birthday.

This evening we joined with two of our sons, Toby and Raf along with Raf's two daughters - Jessica and Caitlin for a meal at our favourite fish cafe here in Launceston.

Poppies and Bumble bees

This morning, when I went for a walk in the garden, I discovered several of my beautiful poppies in full bloom. Several of them were also full of bumble bees who were having a wonderful time swimming around in the pollen. The bees had such a delightful time that by the afternoon, several of the poppy flowers had disintegrated, due to all the bee action!

I have a group of friends with whom I worked when I was lecturing at the University of Tasmania in Launceston. We meet for lunch twice a year. It is a great way to keep in touch with old friends. As Noel and I have been living in Israel for a few years we have missed out on these lunches so it is a nice way to renew contact with friends we have not seen for awhile.

Art on Legs

This evening we travelled to Hobart to attend the 2007 presentation of Fashion Fantasia 'Art on Legs'. It was held at the Derwent Entertainment Centre, Glenorchy.
It was an excellent evening displaying the creative, colourful wearable art works of a large number of participants. Two of my long term friends were the co-directors - Rossie Roberts-Thompson and Karel Fontaine. A fantastic evening!
