Today, Noel and I travelled to Latrobe, where we met with a group of friends to help Noel's godmother, Telle celebrate her 93rd birthday. We enjoyed a delicious meal at Lucas Hotel. Telle cut her delicious birthday cake to share with us. It was a very happy birthday for Telle. Friends and family were visiting from Melbourne, Hobart, Ulverstone, Launceston and Latrobe. There were many stories shared and we had lots of laughs.

UP

Latrobe Fine Art Gallery

After my visit to the Court House Museum, I went for a walk with some friends to investigate some of the shops in the main street. We visited this new Gallery.

A trip to Devonport and Latrobe

Today, I joined a group of 18 friends who volunteer at National Trust properties in the North of Tasmania to visit two properties located on the N.W Coast.

Our first visit was to Home Hill in Devonport. This timber house was home to Prime Minister Joseph Lyons and Dame Enid Lyons together with their 12 children. Built by them in 1916, Home Hill was the heart of the family's life although politics meant parents and children were often separated.

After lunch, we visited the excellent Museum situated at 113 Gilbert Street, Latrobe.
The Court House Museum at Latrobe tells the story of Latrobe and surrounding areas since European settlement began in the mid nineteenth century. It is not always remembered that Latrobe was a major port on the N.W. Coast.

I have a 24 hour stay in hospital

Quite unexpectedly, I found myself in hospital for 24 hours while we were visiting Hobart at the weekend. While I was attending a meeting, I experienced some intense pains in my upper body and arms, so I went to emergency at the hospital and was admitted for tests and observation.

Flood waters in the Gorge and Tamar

There has been a lot of rain fall on Tasmania during the past week, consequently the gorge in Launceston is currently quite spectacular with the flood waters rushing down the South Esk River into the Tamar.

Happy birthday, Gwen Howell!

Today, our dear friend Gwen Howell celebrated her 85th birthday.

Wybalenna

Wybalenna was the site where Tasmanian aboriginal families were housed between 1833 and 1847.

The building in these photographs was used as the Chapel. Nearby, is a cemetery where the unmarked graves of 100 Tasmanian Aboriginals were located in 1986
