Te Rauparaha , Porirua City

I was impressed by these wooden sculptures that decorate a garden area in Te Rauparaha Park.

We have a walk in the bush on the Kapiti coast

After the walk

Lorraine suggested that we could go for a walk and explore the bushland near her home. We went for a walk along the banks of the Waikanae River on the Mangaone Track.

The Mangaone Track follows an old bush tramway in low hill country east of Waikanae. It was historically known as ‘Reikorangi Track’. The southern half follows the Waikanae River through Kaitawa Scenic Reserve, which protects previously milled podocarp forest. The streams at the southern end were easy to ford, but we had to take our shoes and socks off and walk carefully over the river stones, four times!

With Lorraine Gray at Pukerua Bay

Pukerua Bay is the birthplace and childhood home of film director Peter Jackson whose first feature film, Bad Taste, was filmed there. Lorraine invited us to stay with her during our visit to New Zealand. On our first evening on the North Island, we went for a stroll on the beach.
