Centre Pompidou
On our way to the Pompidou Centre, we stopped at an outdoors cafe to have a snack. The Pompidou Centre is often described as being apparently inside out as the escalators, lifts, air and water ducts have all been constructed on the exterior of the building. at the front entrance, there is quite a vast piazza. although some of the exhibition spaces were still closed, we did manage to see all of the exhibitions that were open to the public. we remained in the Centre until almost 8pm when we had arranged to meet with a good friend, Violetta Zein.
The exhibitions we saw included a major overview of the work of the French director, Godard. It was titled 'Travels in Utopia' and featured many clips from his iconic movies.
The various artists and movements of Los angeles during the years 1955-1985 were the focus of a very stimulating and interesting show.
An artist who was awarded the Prix Marcel Duchamp in October 2005, Claude Closky was the focus of a one person show in a gallery that was composed of a series of 16 flat TV screens that were regularly placed at eye level around the 4 walls of the room, their blue displays marking the absence of a video signal.
We met Violetta who took us to a very nice vegetarian restaurant where we chatted non stop and caught up with 4 months worth of news.
