Chateau at Sceaux
In the afternoon, we decided to visit a chateau in the country that was recommended by John Tagliabue in a NY Times Correspondent's Guide to Paris. The Chateau at Sceaux, Maison du Parc, Pavillon de la Grenouillere in Sceaux is magnificent. It is a 19th century structure modelled on a much older forerunner. It is set in a beautiful, fairy tale -like park that is based on designs of the 17th century landscape architect Andre Le Notre. To reach the Chateaux from Paris, we took the RER (regional rail line service) to the Parc de Sceaux station and then we walked through part of the village to reach the grounds. It was very well sign posted and the walk was very pleasant.
A wonderful thing about this beautiful building and the vast grounds is that it is all totally free to the public. There is a nice small kiosk that sells delicious coffe, cakes, crepes and icecreams. It was a most enjoyable way to spend an afternoon. In the evening, we returned to our hotel and after freshening up we ate at the Moroccan style restaurant once more.
