From St Sulpice, we walked to the Jardin du Luxembourg which is a beautiful green oasis in the heart of the Left Bank. The layout of the garden is centred around the Luxembourg Palace and it is dominated by an hexagonal pool. There are many statues decorating the gardens and one of the unique features is the Fontaine de Medicis which was constructed in 1624 for Marie de Medici. I was particularly interested in a modern sculpture of a nose that had been placed in the front pool of the fountain which gave a very surreal look to the fountain.
