Sheffield

We were invited to stay with our dear friends, Edna and Ken Thomas who live at Fulwood, Sheffield. Our timing was perfect as they had only returned from Paris the previous day. We had lots of catching up talk and we walked around their beautiful garden with Ken while he inspected his plants as it had rained quite a lot and there had been some strong winds on the previous evening. I noticed how much the garden had grown since we last visited 2 years ago. After lunch, we went with Ken into the city by bus as parking is rather difficult in central Sheffield.
Ken took us for a walk through the centre of the city where there have been major changes to make the area more attractive and to focus on the needs of pedestrians. We particularly enjoyed the water sculptures in sets of shiny metal spheres. We visited the Millenium Galleries where there was a show about European Design and then we paid a brief visit to the Graves Gallery particularly to see a new piece of sculpture by Marc Quinn called "The Kiss". We had seen another piece of work by him displayed in Trafalgar Square, London.
As we were walking through the Millenium Galleries we noticed an interesting sculpture of a Giraffe made with old pieces of cutlery that had been produced in Sheffield.
