The Argory

Not far from Ardress House is another very interesting National Trust property that we had time to visit. The Argory is situated on a rise overlooking the River Blackwater on the Armagh/ Tyrone border near Moy. It was built in 1824 for Walter McGeough. It is a particularly interesting house to visit as it is a time capsule with everything as it was at the turn of the 20th century. Electricity was never installed in the main rooms; instead, the house was lit by gas from a gas plant that was installed in 1906. There is a wonderful assortment of family treasures left by four generations including furniture, watercolour paintings, books, family portraits and items of clothing. We also spent some time in the pleasure gardens near the house.
