Eyam Village

As it was still light and midsummer, Ken and Edna suggested that we might like to visit the village of Eyam. It is famous because of the effect on the people of the village during the Great Plague of 1665 -1666.
We visited St Lawrence's Parish Church and spent some time exploring the grave yard. In the church yard there is a beautiful Celtic cross from the 8th century. Inside the church is a well documented display about the village of Eyam and the effect of the plague on the people at that time. The village was badly affected by the Great Plague and many families were devastated. There are plaques with the names of those who died attached to the existing houses where the citizens had lived.
Along the street, a set of stocks was also displayed in a small park area
