Ightham Mote

After breakfast we met Alison and headed north to visit Ightham Mote ... another National Trust property. It is recognised as one of the finest examples of English medieval architecture. The 14th century timber and stone building encloses a central court and the whole building is encircled by a moat. It is located in a valley and it is surrounded by woods as wellas trimmed lawns, pools and fabulous cottage style gardens. We were surprised to find on arrival that there was to be a Festival of Morris Dancers taking place on the lawns and singing in the courtyard that day. this is a very specail place. We toured the house and garden, enjoyed a delicious lunch at the cafe and watched quite a few of the Morris dances ... which was a colourful bonus to the visit.
