Chartwell

On Saturday we decided to drive to Chartwell - once the home of Sir Winston and Lady Churchill - but now a National Trust property. Patty organised to have a child free day with us, so we drove through the Surrey and Sussex countryside to find Chartwell. Once we were off the Motorway, it was a beautiful drive through tree lined roads and lanes. Since it was Saturday, the palce was quite busy so our entrance time for the visit was very specific, although once through the door we were able to remain as long as we wished. The property was purchased by Churchill for its wonderful views across the Weald of Kent to Sussex. He lived there from 1924 until his passing. the rooms of the house and the gardens remain much as they were when he nad his family lived there. The paintings, photographs, maps and personal momentos still decorate the beautiful house.
