Windsor

We woke up to a beautiful summer's day and we decided to take a trip on the train to Windsor. We took the underground to Waterloo and then S.West trains to Windsor. It was just a short walk from the station through the town(up hill) to the Castle entrance. We were each provided with an audio guide and there were appropriate prompt numbers displayed on our maps as well as at the significant points of interest as we eplored the Castle and grounds.
First we walked up the main garden path through the grand entrance gate around the dry moat garden, then along the North Terrace to the entrance to the State Apartments, the Drawing gallery and Queen Mary's Dolls' house.
We took time to look at the Dolls' house which is latge and full of very intersting collections of furniture and cars. Next we viewed the dolls and clothes that had been designed by the most famous French clothing designers when Elizabeth and Margaret were small girls. In the drawings gallery there were just a small number of works by Leonardo and Michelangelo. The space was dominated by an exhibition of photographs about Queen Elizabeth in honour of her 80th birthday. It was a most interesting display. Most of the time was given to the visit to the State Apartments, including the room where ther Order of the Garter is bestowed on significant individuals by the Sovereign.
