Tyntesfield

After consuming a delicious fresh fruit salad, kindly prepared by Bill, we set off from St.Ives, heading north towards Worcester.
We had read about a relatively new acquisition by the National Trust so we decided to call in and see Tyntesfield which is located near Wraxall, N.Somerset. It is a spectacular Victorian country house and estate. The mansion is an extraordinary Gothic Revival Extravaganza bristling with towers, turrets and chimneys. There is a huge collection of original items which belonged to the family. These objects are currently being conserved and catalogued.
We began our visit by viewing the interior of the sumptuously decorated private chapel which was never consecrated ... so it was used for family services but not for marriages or burials. Consequently the crypt had been used as a storage place for cast off itmes includinga beautiful original fireplace. We enjoyed exploring the many rooms of the fabulous house as well as the gardens which are also slowly being restored and replanted.
