Beningbrough Hall and gardens, N. Yorkshire

We booked into another Travelodge near York before heading further north to visit Beningbrough Hall. It is an 18th century mansion with an excellent collection of paintings on loan from the National Portrait Gallery. The building is a Georgian style mansion with an impressive baroque style interior. It was built in 1716 and has wonderful carved wooden decorations and a beautiful central corridor. We visited some new displays set up on the top floor featuring several hands-on activities for all ages to enhance the visitor's understanding and enjoyment of portraiture.
We also enjoyed visiting the fully equipped Victorian style laundry where there were some reproductions of photographs of some of the servants to be seen on the walls.
Later, we spent a lot of time wandering through the extensive gardens photographing flowers and trees as well as exterior views of the mansion.
